The Streets are Dark was the second Posthumous album by Saint Vitus. The recording was done probably in late 1983, at a time when Erik-Jan had left the band and was replaced for live-gigs by Frits. Stella was still in the band and Henri and Peter didn't think Frits was suitable to record the next album with them. Henri had played with Rob in 'Herrie & the Beukers' and both Peter and Henri were friends with his band Stress. Rob brought Andre along to do some percussion on one of the two sessions. Hans was also in the band at this point and together they recorded the pre-production for the fourth Saint Vitus album. The involvement of Rob and Andre was kept secret for years because they were still under contract with Stress. The album went by largely unnoticed but the 1990 compilation 'Stella by Starlight' (containing several tracks from 'The Streets are Dark') did a lot for the rehabilitation of the name Saint Vitus.
